Wicked-Sticks

"I'm so jealous...."

submission: Wicked-Sticks
date: April 7, 2003

...that I won't blam it. Seriously, I don't like it when people say "It's my first movie, go easy on me." I judge all movies/games on the same criteria, whether you're new or experienced, 6 or 60 years old.

It has potential. Like others have said, spend more time on it and try for a better framerate. That shooting at the end is very annoying. The movement does have some style though and at least you took a little time to put in sound fx and music.

Mighty Clock 2

"Good animation"

submission: Mighty Clock 2
date: April 6, 2003

That's about it. The music doesn't loop correctly, SBC kept changing sizes in the same shot, and that SBC double is a little confusing.

You're right about the power of Wacom (wish I had one...)!

Work Inc.

"It's funny because it's true."

submission: Work Inc.
date: April 6, 2003

I guess if someone hasn't experienced something like this, they might not find it funny, but I do. The sound editing is very nice too, sound fx, music, etc. Oh, the bizarre three-breasted emails I keep getting...

FDA - ASSWARP

"Unimpressive"

submission: FDA - ASSWARP
date: April 3, 2003

I didn't really enjoy it. It does look like a lot of work, but even the most work doesn't neccessarily warrant a good result.

I did like the individual animations, but as a whole, it didn't fit. Sure, having different art styles is cool, but they have to fit together as well. Let me put it this way. A website with a bunch of cool animated gifs all over the page is definitely not cool. Neither was this movie. Maybe it's because of all the ass references. Then again, maybe it's just like I said before: The sum of the parts isn't equal to the whole. Still worth watching though. Once.

Lightsabercrew

"Bad bad bad bad bad"

submission: Lightsabercrew
date: April 3, 2003

Okay, I'll disregard that it's not really Flash. I'll disregard length. I'll disregard everything but "quality" as you put it.

It was terrible. The quality of the images was bad. I don't know how you got a 3.65 the first time, but then again, a lot of bad movies make it to the Top 200. This time, the image quality is worse, the submission is the same as before (read: unoriginal), and that justifies its lower score. People are wising up.

The 3D models aren't good. The worst part is the motion. I know you aren't going for some bullet time or slow motion, so the movement is just bad. Why do the fighters float in the air? Why do they attack so slowly and smoothly?

Look at a lightsaber fight frame by frame and you'll learn something about motion. SO how's my review based on quality? Take it and learn from it. Don't upload stuff like this again. This kind of stuff makes me want to hurt someone...

Vampire Legends

"Nice drawings, good tone"

submission: Vampire Legends
date: April 3, 2003

That's about it for the good stuff. Your drawings definitely have a cool style. Cool car, and great backgrounds (tho the perspective is off in the stairway). Sadly, that's all that the art has going for it.

There is hardly any animation, the tweened movements are agonizing slow, and the characters have much less style in them than the backgrounds.

The music was good, but it didn't quite fit the action, which would have been better with more riveting music or some sound effects.

I did like the whole mood and atmosphere set up, but that took about half the movie to do and there was little time for any story or action. I thought I accidentally watched the trailer, but no, it was the "full length" movie.

Overall, you did a good job for your first movie, that's for sure. I wouldn't recommend that anyone actually watch this though. I watched it twice, just in case I missed anything, and I ended up losing another 3 minutes of my time. I was so glad it was over.

I know you have a lot of postive reviews and that will surely influence you to do another movie, but next time, try animating something. Please don't submit another slide show.

Scope Assault

"This "game" isn't fun."

submission: Scope Assault
date: March 26, 2003

You create games for 2 reasons: for entertainment or as a simulation.
There is no other reason. This isn't a sniping simulation (snipers don't constantly pop up all over the place) so it's suppose to be fun. It's not and that's why people don't like it.
Don't be so defensive if the game isn't fun. There's more to a game than just "skill." Minesweeper is a game of skill. There's no blood or violence, but many people enjoy that game. In the end, if a game isn't fun, it's not going to go over well. I see you've got some coding skills, so keep up the dedication to game making. Just make the next one enjoyable.

Author's Response:

Scope Assault is featured on like 20 sites.... (Do a google search: "Scope Assault") Some people enjoy it..
My issue is a lot of people don't get the concept of it, also they judge it harshly.. It's more of a mini-game. If It was fuzzy blue balls on a Surreal backdrop I think it'd be more enjoyed..

The problem is that people expect a sniping simulation, where its really more like wack-a-mole, a test of speed and accuracy.

Defend Your Castle !

"The Hand of God"

date: March 15, 2003

First I'll just regurgitate what others have said: fun concept, nice level progression, could use more enemies. Now I have to say that I'm really looking forward to the final release because I can't wait for those craftsmen and wizards. That just might mean there are more types of enemies, eh? Keep the gamer interested by opening up new features because I'm on Stage 18 now, my hand hurts, and there's no reason for me to continue playing except to get to the next level. More enemies, more castle upgrades (moats, warriors, catapults, etc), more incentive to keep playing. Great start!

Cartman teaches version 2

"Solid animation, nothing more"

date: March 15, 2003

The animation is very much like the show; very good. The story doesn't make much sense and although I don't expect you to be able to do the voices perfectly, you should at least be able to imitate the WAY Cartman speaks (i.e. inflection, attitude, personality). You're the big fan of the show. You should know better than that. The animation is dead on though. I do think Cartman moves better than Trey Parker or Matt Stone. Their animation just didn't seem as well done as Cartman's.
