"Another three for you."

date: March 3, 2004

It's ambitious for you to create this, this neat little rampage. Lots of grunts, not much else though.

I'm the evil Simon Cowell of the animation world. It doesn't matter how much time and effort you put into this, it is just poor quality. A three isn't harsh, it's realistic.

You submitted this a few days ago, and it didn't pass judgement then. You're lucky this is passing judgement.

The one tip I will give you is to learn how to animate. Learn how to make someone jump, how to make them get hit, learn how to draw explosions, learn the pace that Quake characters move at. In the end, this movie is just sad. NG isn't always right, but they are usually pretty good at at least saying something gets a thumbs up or a thumbs down. In this case, thumbs down.

kenya

"Amazing"

submission: kenya
date: January 31, 2004

It's not in the length, or the massive amounts of animation, but in the actual product, and this is one fine kenya cartoon.

I waited to review this, just in case I loved it because it was hype, but now i've returned and kenya believe it? I still adore this movie!

I actually find it funnier the more I watch it, and there are quite a few people who haven't matured in their humor yet to appreciate the subtle, but constant humor is your movie. Obviously tigers aren't in Kenya, it's a joke. Norway's main export also isn't trees, but it's funny.

Two tiny complaints kept it from getting a 10 from me. For something that I will watch over and over again, the sound quality could have been better. Sure, you've got bragging rights for making a 350KB movie that can be watched for a while, and that's good for those on dialup (like Norwegians), but 500KB would have been fine too.

The other thing is the sound synchronization. I've got a suped up, speedy, kenya fast computer, and because the sound is event synched and not streamed, it's not locked to specfic frames, thereby noticably coming out of synch after it's been running for about 10 minutes.

Other than those things, your ability to create something so short that is also so kenya, with tasty giraffe flavored graphics and a unique and funny singing kenya style, is highly commendable. This movie has not negatively affected me in any way.

Evolution of Animation

"Not bad."

date: January 14, 2004

Far from anything great, but I found this movie enjoyable. I'll be a little crass by saying you should change the name to "Evolution of a Kid's Squiggly Drawings." The animation wasn't very exciting, or well done. Glad it was frame-by-frame though.

Hopefully, your animation skills will evolve in the future. Pretty good story though. I guess once artists found color, it was the end of the line for animation. Nothing else to discover.

Blot shorts: volume 1

"Good job"

date: November 16, 2003

Nothing too spectacular here, but it was worth a look. It was smart of you to include 2 movies you already submitted to NG instead of just the Zombie one. I think that got you a higher score here on NG, but not from me. If I wanted to see the other 2 movies, I know where to find them (as you haven't removed them yet).

I didn't like seeing Blot walk for 15 seconds straight in the beginning of each short. Gotta match that music, sure, but damn, how boring.

I know you know how to make a button, because you've done it correctly before, so you lose points for putting in "tons of effort" but being too lazy to make decent buttons in the movie.

Don't feel bad Haris, I'm a tough critic, and you know I don't care how much time and effort you put into something if it ends up mediocre. I'll bet they spent a lot of time on "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within," but the movie still sucked. Good job getting 5th place.

Redneck Gangsta Rap

"Suh-weet!"

date: November 13, 2003

I didn't care for the song much, but since you didn't make it, I won't mark you down for it. I thought the graphics were incredible. Not just the animation of "loose limb" characters (MUCH better than Legendary Frog, mind you), but the techniques used, the blurring, the zooming, and the direction. Man, the direction was good. I saw some of your other stuff and the direction was all right, but this time, you got it all right. "Right," in this case, is professional quality.

It would be awesome to see something other than a short from you. I don't mean this movie was short really, but your other stuff is, and this was more of a music video (a damn goo done). As I mentioned, even though I didn't like the song (I thought is was kinda funny, but I didn't laugh), with those directing and animation skills, you could make a truly kickass movie. That's when I give out my tens. You're almost there, man, keep it up.

garbage day

"Good"

submission: garbage day
date: October 26, 2003

It was funny. It was funny, like how a Saturday Night Live sketch is funny, until it's been dragged around after the joke is done and beat into the ground. I laughed, then I waited and waited for the movie to end. (Your score shot up to a 10 right in the first 10 seconds, but as time progressed, it went down...)

You've probably been told this before, but if you just streamed your sound instead of setting it to "event" then all your sounds would match up to the animation on EVERYONE's computers. Event sounds play back at different speeds on people's computers, and I don't mean because of the speed of their processor. Two people with the exact same 3GHz Pentium 4s will still get dffferent results. I have a fast computer and playing it on high and low made no difference (in the end it was off by about 5 seconds). If you can't do something as simple as setting your sounds to "stream" after using Flash for so long, I won't vote any higher than 4. Bad sound synchronization ruins a movie. That, and doing the same joke for 2 minutes straight.

Author's Response:

oh this movie is streaming! oh it streams, baby! oh yeah! oh! anyways, i felt like there was a definite punch line, but (assuming you read the description and saw that the audio was taken from the actual event depicted in this flash) i felt it would be unjust to the situational humor to cut up the raw audio.

so, this was really more of an experiment in a form of "true to life" humor.
thank you.

Gun

"Another sweet short!"

submission: Gun
date: October 26, 2003

Very fluid movement, great reactionary timing, nice shading, good backgrounds, and this one ended well. The music was cool too.

I suggest you fix that fading at the end of the movie. It slowly fades to black and it appears the yellow guy fades to a blueish gray color, then he pops back to normal.

Love your stuff, Sherb!

Author's Response:

Hehe thanks! :) I do notice what you mentioned but, since its already uploaded, I feel no need to change it :p

Unfinished Stick Fight

"Coo"

date: October 21, 2003

I like how the red guy's head was ripped off with the sword and how it just floated back to his body and the fight went on! Then, at one point, they both got that lightning power and used it for a few seconds. I'm also glad their fighting was running almost as slowly as bullet time, I could see all their punches and I watched as they gracefully floated toward each other when they jump kicked. The best part was the end where it just froze, and nobody won. Sick, man, you make the best unfinished Flashes ever!

Rural Racer

"Great!"

submission: Rural Racer
date: October 21, 2003

This game's almost as fun as Off Road! It's a pretty good clone though.

Work on your sound some more. The music was flavorless and the sound, although fitting, wasn't anything special. Perhaps some engine revving or something when you hit turbo.

I'm pretty sure the turbo key worked only 30% of the time, even when the turbo bar was at full capacity.

Glad you included the 2 player option. I'll find someone to torture with this game. It's adequate, but I'd much rather play that old Off Road game in DOS. And that's almost as fun as the arcade Off Road!

GTA3 Tribute

"Nice tribute"

submission: GTA3 Tribute
date: October 21, 2003

It was fine for a tribute. I won't be hard on you since it is just a tribute. If you're gonna make another tribute, I suggest you do a little animation though (yes, i notced the sticks in the beginning). If you reall ylove something, you'll animate somethign for it, not just rehash their pictures. At least you got a bunch of the stuff in there, including the GTA3 music. You should have resized the screeshots though, they were all squished since you cramemd a 4:3 image into that little widescreen thing you had going there.

And about the main guy, I haven't played the game in a while, but I don't think the main guy had a name. Tommy Vercetti is from Vice City (and in one mission in GTA3 I believe you even get your orders from a Mr. Vercetti).

Yeah, so next time, animate some more. As fans we'd like to see more of what the game you're making a tribute to, not just screenshots. Even if it's bad animation, I say, the more original stuff you cram in there, the better the tribute.

Author's Response:

Hey thanks for the review a noce review at that, yeah like i told the last guy this was a trib for gta3 and not vice city, but yeah if i do make anither tribute like for vice city it would be with animation and art work, since this i have more flash skills so im alot better now, oh and i dont know if i have reviewd love wink yet but i hear it went over very well, thanks for the review...
